Narok Governor Patrick Ntutu inaugurated a Sh6 million administration block at Olashapani Secondary School, Narok South Sub County, aiming to enhance learning at the institution. Additionally, Ntutu allocated Sh1.3 million to support financially disadvantaged yet academically promising students at the school, many of whom have been rescued from early marriages and Female Genital Mutilation (FGM).
Encouraging the young girls to strive for academic excellence, Ntutu emphasized equal opportunities for both genders to pursue professional careers. He commended the school management for accommodating girls rescued from regressive cultural practices, reaffirming his commitment to sponsoring vulnerable children to ensure they complete their education.
Highlighting the county’s dedication to supporting girls’ education, Governor Ntutu pledged to procure a Sh8 million bus for the school to facilitate transportation. Additionally, he inaugurated a new classroom at Ololulunga Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) center.
Deputy County Commissioner Felix Kisalu acknowledged the school’s role in providing refuge for girls from vulnerable backgrounds. He urged the county government to further enhance the school’s facilities by establishing a rescue center for girls facing threats at home during holidays.
The school’s principal, Ms. Gloria Nkatha, expressed gratitude for the county government’s assistance in improving infrastructure. She noted the school’s growth since its establishment in 2015, with a current student population of 700, predominantly comprising rescued and financially needy students.
In the fiscal year 2023/2024, the Narok County government allocated Sh100 million for development in each of its 30 wards.
