Dr. Mwalimu Musheshe, an Ashoka Fellow and the Vice Chancellor of African Rural University, took the stage at the Vice Chancellors Forum Leadership Workshop, hosted at Best Western Hotel Entebbe. This workshop, running from April 4th to April 5th, 2024, focuses on the theme: “Quality Leadership as a Strategic Driver for Growth, Sustainability, and Competitiveness in a Challenging Higher Education Environment.”

During this event, Dr. Musheshe emphasized the critical importance of collaboration among universities. He highlighted the numerous benefits it brings, such as intellectual capital, human capital, physical capital, and financial advantages. Furthermore, Dr. Musheshe underscored how university collaboration can expedite research outputs, fueling growth and innovation.

Dr. Musheshe’s expertise and leadership have also been recognized beyond the workshop. He has been chosen as one of five esteemed members tasked with formulating a framework for research collaboration among Ugandan universities. This selection was made by the Vice Chancellors Forum during the aforementioned workshop.

The committee tasked with developing this framework comprises distinguished scholars, including Dr. Musheshe, Prof. Eriabu Lugujjo, Professor Lawrence Muganga, Prof. Paul Waako, and Pelucy Ntambirweki Kabahuma. Their objective is to negotiate a research and innovation fund. Notably, Professor Barnabas Nawangwe, the Vice Chancellor of Makerere University, will provide technical support to the committee.

The commitment to fostering collaboration among universities, as demonstrated by Dr. Musheshe and his colleagues, holds significant promise for advancing research, innovation, and academic excellence in Uganda.
